16 Days of Activism Against Gender Abuse

16 Days of Activism Against Gender Abuse

Zero Tolerance from

Childhood to Adulthood

25 November to 10 December

This is an international campaign originating from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women's Global Leadership in 1991. Participants chose the dates, November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women and December 10, International Human Rights Day, in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that such violence is a violation of human rights. This 16-day period also highlights other significant dates including November 29, International Women Human Rights Defenders Day, December 1, World AIDS Day, and December 6, which marks the Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. In the Cayman Islands it was an initiative of the Business and Professional Women’s Club and is being done in partnership with the Women’s Resource Centre and Department of Children and Family Service, as well as various partner agencies.

This year a special 16 Days Booklet was created full of messages and advice from various agencies that deal with gender abuse. If you or your business/organization is interested in obtaining copies please contact Miriam Foster at 949-0006 or Miriam.foster@gov.ky. There are still a few events left if you wish to participate:
